After lots of leaks, Apple has finally launched the M2 iPad Pro series which includes the iPad Pro 12.9-inch and iPad Pro 11-inch models.
The new M2 iPad Pro series comes with lots of noticeable improvements when compared to the previous year’s model. The main one is the new Apple M2 SoC that was unveiled some months ago on the 2022 MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro.
Other new things includes an updated and well improved camera features, better connectivity, and support for the hover feature using Apple Pencil.
In this article, I’ll be sharing with you everything you need to know about the newly released Apple M2 iPad Pro series. Let’s get right into it.
Apple M2 iPad Pro (2022)

Display
The display is one of the few places where the 12.9-inch model and 11-inch model are different as the former gets better quality.
The 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro has a 12.9 inches Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED display that has a resolution of 2058 x 2732 pixels with support for ProMotion, Dolby Vision and HDR10. The display has a typical brightness of 1000 nits and a peak brightness of 1600 nits.
The 11-inch model comes with a Liquid Retina LCD display that has a resolution of 1668 x 2388 pixels with support for ProMotion, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. It has a typical brightness of 600 nits.
Design
As for design, the new M2 iPad Pro does not change much on the outside when compared to its predecessors as they look very similar. It comes in the same premium aluminum build with everything remaining in the same spot.
Processor and Memory
The M2 iPad Pro models are powered by the Apple M2 chipset that we saw on the new MacBooks. The chipset has an octa-core CPU (4x performance cores + 4x efficiency cores), a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.
In comparison to the last year’s M1 iPad Pro, Apple says this new chipset offers up to 40% better ML performance, 35% faster graphics performance, 15% better CPU performance, and 50% more memory bandwidth. This should let you notice improvements when gaming, multitasking, and carrying out machine learning and AI tasks.
As for RAM on iPad Pro, they come with 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB or 512GB or 1TB, or 2TB of internal storage. All models with 8GB of RAM will be available with 128GB to 512GB of storage while models with 16GB of RAM will be available with 1TB or 2TB of storage.
Camera
Coming to the cameras, we see no physical upgrades as Apple decided to let things stay the same as the 2021 iPad Pro.
The 2022 M2 iPad Pro has a 12MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 10MP ultrawide camera, and a LiDAR sensor. On the front, there is a 12MP ultrawide selfie camera. The selfie camera is at the top so when in landscape mode, it is going to be on the left.
The rear camera can record videos in up to 4K resolution whole the selfie is capped at 1080p resolution.
Some new features include ProRes video recording, 4K Cinematic Mode, and Smart HDR 4, all thanks to the new processor.
Battery and Charging
As for the battery, things remain the same, the 11-inch M2 iPad Pro has a 7,538 mAh battery while the 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro has a 10,758 mAh battery. Apple says you can expect up to 10 hours of usage on WiFi and 9 hours on a cellular network.
The M2 iPad Pro has support for 18W fast charging via its USB Type-C port, and Apple ships a 20W USB-C adapter with the tablet.
Software
The M2 iPad Pro runs on the latest iPadOS 16.1 that was unveiled recently.
Network and Connectivity
As expected with tablets, the M2 iPad Pro has two variants: Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular, with the latter being more expensive.
The iPad Pro comes with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and GPS (Wi-Fi+Cellular only). It has a USB C 4.0 port with support for Thunderbolt.
Apple Pencil Hover
Apple Pencil Hover is a new feature that is being unveiled on the M2 iPad Pro (2022). Using electromagnetic signals from the Apple Pencil, you can now interact with the iPad Pro when the pencil is 12mm away from the display. This enables additional functionality when using the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. It will be available in first-party apps as well as third-party apps.
This is exclusive to the new M2 iPad Pro and it will only work with 2nd gen Apple Pencil.
Apple M2 iPad Pro Price and Availability
The Apple M2 iPad Pro (2022) price is quite similar to its predecessor.
The 11-inch M2 iPad Pro price will start at $799 for the Wi-Fi model and $999 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
The 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro price will start at $1,099 for the Wi-Fi model and $1,299 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
The tablets will be available in two colors: Silver and Space Gray.
