Xiaomi has always used the Redmi series to release smartphones with one of the best specs to price ratio in the smartphone market. This is still the modus operandi as the Chinese company unveils the new Redmi Note 12 series which contains the Redmi Note 12 Pro.
The Redmi Note 12 series comprises four different devices: the vanilla Redmi Note 12, the Redmi Note 12 Pro, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, and the highest-end Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro is coming to be the successor to the Redmi Note 11 Pro that was launched at the beginning of this year. When compared to its predecessor, the Note 12 Pro offers a better display, a more powerful processor, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The only thing you miss out on is support for micro SD, seems the Redmi line is following in the footsteps of Samsung.

Display
The display is one of the few places where Xiaomi decided to improve the Redmi Note 12 Pro. It has the same sized display but with a better panel and support for new features.
The phone has a 6.67-inch OLED display that has an FHD+ resolution. The display has support for 120Hz refresh rate and it utilizes a 10-bit panel which makes it able to show 1B colors. It also has support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ with a peak brightness of 900 nits.
Beneath the display, there is an optical fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication as opposed to a side-mounted sensor on the previous model.
Design and Body
There are also some visible design changes with the Redmi Note 12 Pro as the rear camera bump has taken a different shape.
The phone has flat edges just like the iPhone 12 and it is also slimmer and lighter. It comes in at 7.9mm of thickness and 187 grams of weight. It is also IP53 certified so the phone is resistant to dust and splashes.
As for color options, the phone is available in Black, Blue, and White. There is a special Yibo Edition that is available in a pink gradient shade.
Processor and Memory
The Redmi Note 12 Pro is equipped with the Dimensity 1080 chipset that is built on a 6nm fabrication process. It has two Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. It is also paired with the Mali G68 MC4 GPU.
The phone comes with 6GB or 8GB or 12GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of fast UFS 2.2 internal storage. Sadly, it also misses out on the micro SD card slot just like its sibling, the Redmi Note 12.
Software
The phone comes running on Android 12 with MIUI 13 skin on top.
Camera
Coming to the cameras, you’d notice some changes as there are now three cameras and also, a reduction in the megapixels count.
On the rear, there is a 50MP main camera with OIS and Sony IMX766 sensor, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor.
As you can see, the main camera is better than the previous model’s even though it has a lesser megapixel count.
On the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera tucked in a tiny punch-hole cutout at the top center of the display.
When recording videos, the rear camera can go up to 4K resolution at 30 fps while the selfie camera is capped at 1080p resolution at 30 or 60 fps.
Battery and Charging
The battery still remains the same as the Redmi Note 12 comes with a 5,000 mAh non-removable battery.
It comes with support for 67W fast charging via its USB Type-C port and Xiaomi says it should take the phone from 0% to 100% in only about 46 minutes of charging. It also supports USB PD 3.0.
Network and Connectivity
The new chipset brings support for 5G connectivity on the Redmi Note 12 Pro. It also comes with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 (A2DP, LE), NFC, and an IR blaster.
As for navigation, it comes with GPS (L1), GLONASS (G1), BDS (B1I+B1c), GALILEO (E1), and QZSS (L1).
The phone has USB-C 2.0 port with support for OTG and it also retains the invaluable 3.5mm headphone jack.
Redmi Note 12 Pro Price and Availability
The Redmi Note 12 Pro price starts at $235 (CNY 1,699) for the 6GB 128GB base model and it goes up to $305 (CNY 2,199) for the 12GB 256GB highest-end model.
The phone was launched in China with sales commencing on November 1. There is no official information on the Redmi Note 12 Pro’s global availability yet.
