Samsung is one of the first popular smartphone companies to venture into the foldable market with the launch of the original Samsung Galaxy Z Fold in 2019. Since then, Samsung has released newer and improved versions of foldable phones. Now, Samsung has launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G which is the latest addition to the Galaxy Z Flip series.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip3 that was launched last year. Being the third gen of the clamshell foldable phones pioneered by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, the Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with some improvements to enhance the user experience. It now has a new hinge design and also a larger battery.
In this article, I’ll share everything you need to know about the newly released Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G, its specs, price, and features. Let’s get right into it.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4
Like I said earlier, there have been some minor changes to the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 as it now has a refined hinge. The hinge is now more slim with a narrower gap that helps the phone be smaller and less susceptible to damage when it is folded. The phone is IPX8 water resistant. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded on the power button.
The phone is about 6.9 mm thin when unfolded and about 17.1 mm thin when folded. It also weighs about 187 grams of weight. It is also now more durable as the rear panel is covered with the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ while the frame is made out of Armor Aluminum.
Coming to the main foldable display, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with a 6.7 inches flexible Dynamic AMOLED panel that has an FHD+ resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It has support for HDR10+ and has a peak brightness of 1200 nits. It now has a 22 by 9 aspect ratio with the bezels around the screen being trimmed a bit.
There is a cover display at the rear of the phone and it has 1.9 inches Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels.
The cover display is now more functional as it has multiple customization features as well as more ways for it to be used. It can be used to reply to messages using speech-to-text and also can be used to take selfies using the rear camera. It has more widgets options as well as more quick settings controls to do certain actions.
There is a dual camera setup on the rear and it features a 12MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture & 1.8μm pixels and a 12MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.4 aperture. The main camera is the same as the camera on the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 so it is a major improvement over the camera on the Galaxy Z Flip3.
On the front, there is a punch hole cutout for the 10MP selfie camera.
On the inside, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 draws its power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset coupled with the Adreno 730 GPU.
The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB or 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 internal storage with no support for storage expansion.
On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 rubs on One UI 4.1 based on Android 12 and Samsung promises up to 4 years of software updates. It now has a new feature called FlexMode which gives you options on how to use the folded screen in different apps.
Apps for video calling like Zoom, Google Meet, and Facebook Messenger have optimized their app to take advantage of the foldable display. There’s multi-window which allows having two apps on the two halves of the screen.
There’s also a Flex mode touchpad which allows you to use the bottom half of the screen as a touchpad to control the app on the upper half of the display.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with a 3,700 mAh non-removable battery which is about 12% larger than the battery of its predecessor. It also now has support for 25W fast charging.
The phone is available in multiple colors like Graphite, Pink Gold, Bora Purple, and Blue. Also, you can mix and match up to 75 unique color combinations if you get a Bespoke Edition model via Samsung’s website.
