Samsung, the South Korean technology giant has launched the Samsung Galaxy Fold which is their first-ever foldable smartphone. This smartphone is the bridge between phones and tablets. When folded, it is just like every smartphone but bulky though. When unfolded, it transforms into an attractive tablet.

Being a foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold has two different displays for your viewing pleasure. The first being the cover display for use when folded and the second being the main display that folds.
The cover display is a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 720 x 1680 pixels and a 21 by 9 ratio.
The main display is a 7.6-inch Flexible Dynamic AMOLED screen that folds because of the flexible plastic film used. It has a resolution of 1536 x 2152 pixels and ~362 PPI density.


Design and Body

The design of the Galaxy Fold is unconventional as it takes different forms whether it’s folded or not. When unfolded, it has a thickness of 6.9 mm which is really thin. When folded, it has a thickness of 15.5 mm which is really bulky. Also, it weighs 263 grams which is not bad as conventional tablets weigh way more.
It has a glass body and an aluminum frame and hinge that gives it a premium feel in the hands.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 (7nm) chipset that has a maximum clock speed of 2.84 GHz coupled with Adreno 640 GPU.
It comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB UFS 3.0 storage with no micro SD card slot for storage expansion.



Coming to the cameras, the Galaxy Fold has a triple rear camera, a dual selfie camera on the main display, and a single selfie camera on the cover display.
The rear camera features a 12MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP telephoto camera with OIS, and a 16MP ultrawide camera. The rear camera can record videos at 4K up to 60 fps, 1080p up to 240 fps, and 720p up to 960 fps. It can also record HDR10 content.
The dual selfie camera on the main display features a 10MP main camera and an 8MP secondary camera. On the cover display, we also have a 10MP main camera. They can record 4K videos at 30 or 60 fps and 1080p at up to 60 fps.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with a 4,380 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery.
As for charging, it has support for both wired and wireless fast charging. It can share power with other devices with reverse wireless charging.

Depending on your country and model you buy, the Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with either 5G support or 4G LTE network.
It has dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and GPS. Also, it supports Samsung DeX and Samsung Pay. It has a USB 3.1 type C port for charging and data transfer.



On the software side, the Galaxy Fold runs on Android 9 Pie with One UI out of the box and will upgradeable to Android 12 with One UI 4.
