Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Everything you need to know

Samsung spent the last few weeks teasing the Samsung Galaxy S23 series which just got officially announced. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the leader of the pack, and that is what this article will be focused on.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and I can say that it is a worthy successor. The S23 Ultra has lots of upgrades and improvements across the hardware and software. One of the top highlights is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy.

Keep on reading this article as I’ll share with you everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Let’s get right into it.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Key Specs

  • 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy
  • 8GB or 12GB of RAM
  • 256GB or 512GB or 1TB of internal storage
  • 200MP + 10MP + 10MP + 12MP quad rear camera
  • 12MP selfie camera
  • 5,000 mAh battery
  • In-display fingerprint sensor
  • 45W fast wired charging

Surprisingly, the display is one of the places that remains relatively the same compared to the S22 Ultra. There is a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 1440 x 3088 pixels. It has a peak brightness of 1,750 nits, and it can now support an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. The new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 by Qualcomm is protecting the display.

Design and Body

Well, it’s not only the display that relatively remains the same, I can also say that the design has not changed much. In fact, the only new design is a more smooth boxy shape that is reminiscent of the now-discontinued Galaxy Note series.
The glass sheet on the rear panel is now the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and apart from these, there are close to no changes at all.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy is a customized version of the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It brings higher CPU and GPU clock speeds which leads to better performance.
It has a Cortex-X3 core that runs up to 3.36 GHz instead of 3.2 GHz on the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It’s Adreno 740 GPU also has a clock speed of 719 MHz as opposed to the regular 680 MHz.

The processor is coupled with either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. As for storage, you have 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options. The storage uses the latest UFS 4.0.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra runs on Android 13 with the latest One UI 5.1 skin on top. Samsung promises up to 4 years of major Android software updates.

The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra have been upgraded as the main camera now uses Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor.

The main camera can pixel bin 16-to-1 for a 12MP resolution with 2.4μm pixels or pixel bin 4-to-1 for a 50MP resolution image. The sensor has better stabilization due to its new 2x wider OIS angle and Adaptive VDIS.
Alongside the main camera are a 10MP 3X telephoto camera, a 10MP 10X periscope camera, and a 12MP ultrawide camera with autofocus.

On the front, there is also a new selfie camera as Samsung adds a new 12MP sensor with autofocus and f/2.2 aperture.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra may have the same 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessor but due to a more efficient processor, the battery life has been improved substantially. The phone is capable of going through a day of heavy usage without dying.

Charging is still the same, there is support for 45W fast wired charging and 15W fast wireless charging.
