Asus Zenfone 9 launched with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and many more

Asus is a popular technology company based in Taiwan. It is known for manufacturing smartphones, smart accessories, laptops, and other consumer electronics. Today, Asus decided to launch the Asus Zenfone 9 after lots of teasing.

The Asus Zenfone 9 comes in as the successor to the previous Asus Zenfone 8 that was launched about a year ago. When compared to its predecessor, the Asus Zenfone 9 is a bit smaller but with major improvements across all departments. It now has a bigger battery, better cameras, and a large VC for Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset.

In this article, I’ll share with you everything you need to know about the new Asus Zenfone 9 that was just launched. Without taking much of our time, let’s get right into it.

Upfront, there is a 5.9 inches OLED display that has an FHD resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It has a peak brightness of 1,100 nits with about 800nits at 100% APL. It also has support for HDR10+. The display covers 112% of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut and 151 9% of the sRGB color space. There is an Always On mode and it supports DC dimming when you reduce the brightness level. The screen is protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The design of this phone is one of its great features as it comes in a small & compact body making it one of the smallest Android flagship smartphones. It weighs about 165 grams and is about 9.5 mm thin. It has an aluminum frame with a rear panel that is made of a new polymer material which Asus says is more durable than plastic and glass. Of course, the phone is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.
The power button now doubles as a fingerprint sensor as opposed to the in-display sensor on the Zenfone 8 and it is also a smart button to perform actions using gestures.

Under the hood, the Asus Zenfone 9 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+Gen 1 chipset, an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. There is a large vapor chamber to keep the powerful chipset cool and it is about 2.3 times bigger than the heat pipe on the Zenfone 8.

It comes with 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 128GB it 256GB of fast UFS 3.1 internal storage with no microSD card slot. It comes in 8GB 128GB, 8GB 256GB,and 12GB 256GB configurations.

The Zenfone 9 runs on a near-stock version of Android 12 with some new software features like Game Genie which helps when playing games. There will be 2 major OS updates and about 2 years of security updates as well.

Coming to the camera, the Asus Zenfone 9 comes with a dual rear camera with improved sensors and a single selfie camera.

The dual rear camera setup features a main camera with a 50MP IMX766 sensor & a 6-axis gimbal OIS and an ultrawide camera with a 12MP IMX363 sensor with AutoFocus & 113° FOV. The main camera can be used for 2x lossless zoom to make up for the lack of a telephoto camera. The ultrawide camera can take macro shots at 4cm thanks to its AutoFocus, it also has support for hyperSteady stabilization. Asus says the gimbal OIS on the main sensor is 3x more effective than regular OIS so videos are more stabilized and images less prone to shakes.

The selfie camera has a Sony IMX663 sensor with AutoFocus tucked in the tiny punch-hole cutout at the top left corner of the display.

On the inside, the Asus Zenfone 9 has a 4,300 mAh battery that is about 7.5% bigger than the battery of its predecessor. Asus promises a two-day battery life with mixed usage.
As for charging, it has support for 30W HyperCharge and USB Power Delivery 3.0 PPS.
There are lots of nice software features included to increase the battery life of this phone like setting maximum charge and charging modes.

Surprisingly, the Asus Zenfone 9 still has a 3.5 mm headphone jack which is something that is becoming extinct on flagships. It also has dual stereo speakers with one bigger speaker on the bottom and a bit smaller speaker at the top with each of them having a Qualcomm Aqstic smart speaker amplifier.
