Over the years, Xiaomi’s Redmi series have released affordable phones with a good specs-to-price ratio. Now, Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi A1 Plus which is a lovely entry-level smartphone.
The Redmi A1 Plus is the Plus model of the Redmi A1 that was released about one month earlier. The Redmi A1 Plus focuses on the things that an average user will appreciate like a big battery, a fingerprint sensor, and a large display. It forgoes other fancy stuff to achieve a low price for the consumer.

On the front, the Redmi A1 Plus sports a 6.52 inches IPS LCD display that has an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels with pixels per inch density of 269.
The display has a typical brightness of 400 nits, and it can go up to 500 nits in extreme situations. At the top, the screen has a water drop notch which is quite outdated at this point. There is protection applied so you need to get a tempered glass screen protector. Also, there are noticeable bezels around the screen.
Design and Body
Xiaomi decided to go with a familiar design here as the Redmi A1 Plus looks quite similar to previous smartphones released by the company.
The phone comes in a polycarbonate plastic body that has a thickness of 9.1 mm and comes in at 192 grams of weight. The rear panel of the phone has a leather texture finish which makes the phone feel premium in the hands. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the back for biometric authentication.
Processor and Memory
On the inside, the Xiaomi Redmi A1 Plus is powered by the quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 chipset that is built on a 12nm fabrication process. It has four cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz. As for the graphics, the chipset is paired with the PowerVR GE8320 GPU.
The processor is coupled with either 2GB or 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It has a dedicated micro SD card slot so you can expand the storage by up to 1TB. Also, there is the memory extension feature which can give up to 2GB of extra RAM using free internal storage.
On the software front, the phone comes running on MIUI 12 based on Android 12 Go Edition. Xiaomi promises 2 years of timely software updates so you’re covered for a while.
On the rear, there is a dual camera setup that features an 8MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture and a secondary QVGA sensor. It has a dual-LED flash that helps to add a nice tone when you use the flashlight. As for videos, it can record in 1080p at 30 fps.
On the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera tucked in the water drop notch at the top center. It can also record videos in 1080p resolution at 30 fps.
Network and Connectivity
There is support for 4G LTE networks on this phone and it can support the following LTE bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, and 41.
The phone comes with Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, FM radio, and GPS. It has an outdated micro USB port for charging and data transfer.

The Redmi A1 Plus is backed by a 5,000 mAh non-removable battery.
As for charging, the phone maxes out at just 10W of power. It will take well over 2 hours for the phone to charge fully if it ever runs down.
