Motorola is an American technology company owned by Lenovo. In recent years, it has been at the forefront of budget-friendly entry-level and mid-range smartphones. The Motorola Moto G8 Play has been unveiled by the company as its latest budget offering.
The Moto G8 Play is a new addition to the Moto G series which is known for its affordability. The phone is a more affordable alternative to the Moto G8 Plus. It also comes with a huge battery, a decent processor, and a good enough camera setup.
In this article, I’ll share the Motorola Moto G8 Play specs and price as well as everything else you need to know about the phone.

Coming to the display which is the part we interact with most, Motorola did a decent job. The Moto G8 Play sports a 6.2 inches IPS LCD display that has an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels with 271 pixels per inch density.
It has a water drop notch at the top, and thanks to the 19 by 9 aspect ratio, the bezels are a bit smaller. The screen has no protection so you need to get a tempered glass screen protector. It looks great when watching movies or playing games.
Design and Body
Looking at the phone, it is obvious that Motorola took a simplistic approach as there is nothing over the top. It looks good enough and is very durable thanks to the polycarbonate plastic material used on the body.
It is not bulky despite its large battery as it has a weight of 184 grams with a thickness of 9 mm. A USB-C port and 3.5 mm audio jack are placed on the bottom with the power button and volume rockers on the side.
Processor and Memory
There is a MediaTek Helio P70M chipset powering the Moto G8 Play. It is an octa-core chipper with a maximum clock speed of 2.1 GHz. It is paired with the Mali G72 MP3 GPU which does a decent job when playing games at low to medium graphics.
The phone comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is a micro SD card slot, and it supports expansion by 512GB or more.
On the software side, the Moto G8 Play runs on Android 9 Pie straight out of the box. In 2022, it is now upgradeable to Android 10.
As I said earlier, the phone has a good enough camera for a lower midrange smartphone.
On the rear, there is a triple-camera setup. It features a 13MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP depth camera with an LED flash. It can take photos in HDR and panorama modes. As for videos, it can record in 1080p resolution at 30 fps.
On the front, there is an 8MP camera tucked in the water drop notch for taking selfies and video calls. It also supports HDR and can record videos in 1080p resolution at 30 fps.
Network and Connectivity
There is support for 4G LTE networks on the Motorola Moto G8 Play. Make sure to confirm if it supports your ISP LTE bands before purchasing.
The phone comes with Wi-Fi 3, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2 (A2DP, LE), and FM radio. As for navigation, there is GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO.
Battery and Charging
As I said earlier, the Moto G8 Play has a massive battery. It comes with a 4,000 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery.
Unfortunately, there is no support for fast charging here. It will take quite some time for it to charge fully.
Moto G8 Play Price and Availability
The Motorola Moto G8 Play price is set at $105 which is equivalent to around 90 EUR. It is available on Amazon and other global online stores.
