Huawei is China’s biggest technology company, they are known for manufacturing smartphones, smart accessories, laptops, TVs, and other consumer electronics. Although Huawei has been banned from working with US companies, this has not really affected their launch of phones in China and other regions. Huawei has launched the Huawei Mate 30E Pro 5G silently in China.

The Mate 30E Pro 5G was launched alongside the Mate 40 series smartphones and it comes in as a refreshed version of the previous Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G that was launched the year before. In the refresh, Huawei decided to change things up a little bit with the choice of a new chipset, the HiSilicon Kirin 990E 5G. The Kirin 990E is an improved version of the Kirin 990 that was in the Mate 30 Pro.

After the change in the chipset, everything else remains pretty much the same as Huawei seems to be sticking with their guns. The phone comes with a lovely large display, a big battery, a powerful processor, a premium design, and an excellent camera system.

Display

Like I said earlier, everything but the chipset remains the same in this phone so there are no improvements or downgrades to the display.

Upfront, the Huawei Mate 30E Pro 5G sports a 6.53 inches OLED display that has an FHD+ resolution of 1176 x 2400 pixels with 409 PPI density.

The display covers 100% of the NTSC color space and it also has a full coverage of the DCI P3 color gamut. It is sure to produce color-accurate content when watching movies, editing, or even playing games.
It also has support for HDR10 so you watch high dynamic range content on this phone.

The screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 6 which is scratch resistant and also immune to easy damage. The phone has a 94.1% screen-to-body ratio with a medium-sized U-notch at the top which is similar to the notch of the iPhone X.

Looking at the phone, there are no bezels at the sides as you get a near-perfect full view experience except for the presence of noticable bezes at the top and bottom with a notch.

Beneath the display, there is an optical fingerprint sensor that is used for biometric authentication. You don’t need the sensor being at the rear as it can now be under the screen.

Design and Body

The design of this phone still remains unchanged and it is still beautiful even though it was first unveiled to the world about a year ago.

The Huawei Mate 30E Pro comes in a glass sandwich build that has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and rear panel with an aluminum frame holding them together. However, there are also versions with vegan leather back instead glass, this helps to increase the durability of the phone.

The phone comes in a body that has a thickness of 8.8 mm and weighs about 198 grams. It feels premium and sleek in the palm so you’ll have no problems holding it.
The rear panel as well as the sides remain unchanged, you’ll get the same positions and layouts of the cameras and physical buttons.

As for color options, the phone is available in Orange and Forest Green for the vegan leather version while the glass version is available in Black, Space Silver, Cosmic Purple, and Emerald Green.

Processor and Memory

Now we are the place where Huawei decided to switch things up a little bit by offering a newer version of the previous chipset.

The Huawei Mate 30E Pro 5G is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 990E chipset that is fabbed on a 7nm+ process to increase efficiency.

The Kirin 990E has two Cortex-A76 performance cores clocked at up to 2.86 GHz with an additional pair of Cortex-A76 cores going up to 2.36 GHz and the four Cortex-A55 cores going up to 1.95 GHz. The chipset is paid with the Mali G76 MP14 GPU.

The processor is coupled with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of fast UFS 3.0 storage. The phone has a NM (Nano Memory) slot that you can use to extend the storage by up to 256GB.

Software

On the software front, the Huawei Mate 30E Pro will launch running EMUI 11, which is still based on Android 10 just like its predecessor.

Camera

Huawei has been one of the top pioneers of smartphone camera photography as they’ve made sure their phones were not lacking in that department. The cameras of the Huawei Mate 30E Pro are still the same and perform at the same top level.

The quad rear camera setup features a 40MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and OIS, a 40MP ultrawide camera with Auto Focus, and a 3D ToF sensor.
The dual selfie camera features a main camera with a 32MP sensor and it is accompanied by a 3D ToF sensor to help with Face ID.

As for video recording, the rear camera can go up to 4K resolution at 30 or 60 fps while the selfie camera is capped at 1080p resolution at 30 fps.

Network and Connectivity

There’s support for 5G and 4G LTE networks on the Huawei Mate 30E Pro 5G. The phone is exclusive to China so it might not support the network bands needed in some other countries.

The phone comes with dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and an infrared port. It has a USB 3.1 Type C port with OTG support.

Battery and Charging

On the inside, the Huawei Mate 30E Pro has a 4,500 mAh non-removable battery.

As for charging, it has support for 40W fast wired charging and 27W fast wireless charging. It also supports reverse wireless charging.

The Huawei Mate 30E Pro 5G is priced at around €680 which is equivalent to around $750. It is available for sale only in China and the price is a conversion of how much it sells for there.
