Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 as the latest addition to the 7 series, targeting the midrange smartphone segment. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is the successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. In today’s article, I’ll talk about all the new features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Features
The new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is still built on a 4nm fabrication process by TSMC. It features a 1+3+4 core design with 1 prime core, 3 performance cores, and 4 efficiency cores. The prime core is clocked at 2.63 GHz while the performance and efficiency cores are clocked at 2.4 GHz and 1.8 GHz respectively. This brings about a 15% improvement in CPU performance.
There is now a new unspecified Adreno GPU and Qualcomm claims that it is 50% faster than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 GPU. It also now supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.
We’re in an AI rush, Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU is in the chip, and it brings about 60% better AI performance.
With all these improvements in general performance, Qualcomm still manages to achieve a 20% reduction in power consumption when compared to the previous gen.
There is support for 4K res displays at 60Hz refresh rate, WQHD+ res displays at 120Hz, or FHD+ res displays at 168Hz.
The chipset comes with Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP which supports up to 200MP res main camera and can capture from 3 cameras at once. It can record 4K HDR videos and enables other features like AI Remosaic and AI Video Retouch which improve video and photo quality.
Qualcomm equips the chipset with the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System which can reach download speeds up to 5 Gbps. The FastConnect 6700 Mobile Connectivity System brings support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. There is support for USB 3.1 Gen 2 and Quick Charge 5.
