WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, has recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to use passkeys for account login. This additional layer of security is designed to further protect user accounts from unauthorized access. In this blog post, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to set up and use passkeys on WhatsApp.

Step 1: Update WhatsApp

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your device. Open the app store on your smartphone and check for any available updates. If there is an update available, download and install it.

Step 2: Access Account Settings

Once you have updated WhatsApp, open the app and navigate to the settings menu. On Android devices, tap on the three dots in the top-right corner and select ‘Settings.’ On iOS devices, tap on the ‘Settings’ tab at the bottom-right corner.

Step 3: Set Up Passkey

WhatsApp Launches Voice Status Features

In the settings menu, tap on the ‘Account’ option. Then, select ‘Two-step verification’ and tap on the ‘Enable’ button. You will be prompted to enter a six-digit passkey of your choice. Make sure to choose a passkey that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.

Step 4: Add Email Address

After setting up the passkey, WhatsApp will ask you to provide an email address. This email address will be used to reset your passkey in case you forget it. It is important to provide a valid email address that you have access to.

Step 5: Confirm Passkey

Once you have entered your email address, WhatsApp will ask you to confirm your passkey. This is to ensure that you have entered the correct passkey and to avoid any typos. Enter the passkey again and tap on the ‘Confirm’ button.

Step 6: Additional Security

WhatsApp will give you the option to add an additional layer of security by enabling the ‘Two-step verification’ feature. This feature requires you to enter your passkey every time you register your phone number with WhatsApp, providing an extra level of protection for your account.

Once you have completed the above steps, you have successfully set up passkeys on WhatsApp. From now on, whenever you open WhatsApp on your device, you will be prompted to enter your passkey before gaining access to your account.

Using passkeys for account login adds an extra layer of security to your WhatsApp account, ensuring that only you can access your messages and personal information. It is highly recommended to set up passkeys to protect your account from unauthorized access.
