It is the latest rugged smartphone from the South Korean company as they also want to have a smartphone to cater to those who specifically need rugged smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro was launched alongside two affordable mid-rangers from the A-series, the Galaxy A51, and Galaxy A71.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro comes in at around the price of a regular mid-range smartphone but now, it has lots of features that the regular mid-range smartphone does not have. For example, the phone is IP68 certified and also complies with the MIL-STD-810G standard. This makes it to be water and dust-resistant as well as shockproof.

Design and Body

Like I said earlier, this is a rugged smartphone so the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro does not have the conventional designs seen on other phones in today’s market.

The Galaxy Xcover Pro comes in a rugged polycarbonate body that is shockproof and water/dust resistant with MIL-STD-810G compliance and IP68 certification. It is said to be resistant to damage from drops of up to 1.5 meters which is fantastic. The body is about 10 mm thick and it weighs about 218 grams.

On the rear, there’s a rough finish that increases grip, it also houses the dual rear camera with an LED flash and Samsung’s branding towards the bottom.
The phone is only available in one color and that is Black.

On the sides, the volume rockers and power button are on the right with one programmable button on the left and another one at the top. The power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication while the two programmable buttons can be set to perform various functions (e.g. turn on the flashlight).

Display

Coming to the display, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro comes with a 6.3 inches IPS LCD display that has an FHD resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels with 409 pixels per inch density. The display has a 19.5 by 9 aspect ratio with a tiny punch-hole cutout at the top left corner for housing the selfie camera. There are noticable bezels all around the screen which is expected as phones like this can be fitted with a bezel-less display.

Being a rugged smartphone, the display is quite special as it can be used with gloves on and even when it is wet. This makes it usable in most extreme situations like swimming or mountain climbing. As for protection, the display is covered by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which is scratch resistant and immune to easy damage.

Processor and Memory

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro is powered by the octa-core Exynos 9611 chipset. It has four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz. It is also built on an 11nm fabrication process to increase efficiency and reduce power consumption.

The chipset is paired with the Mali G72 MP3 GPU. It offers a decent performance when playing games and carrying out other graphics-intensive tasks.

The processor is coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of internal storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot for expanding the storage if need be.

Software

On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro comes running on Android 10 with One UI 2.0 straight out of the box. It is now upgradable to Android 11 with One UI 3.0.

Camera

Coming to the cameras, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro has a decent camera that should be able to cater to the needs of an average user.

The dual rear camera setup features a 25MP main camera with f/1.7 aperture and an 8MP ultrawide camera with f/2.2 aperture. The ultrawide camera has a 123-degree field of view so you can take really wide photos.
It can record videos in 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.

On the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture tucked in the tiny punch-hole cutout at the top left corner. It can record videos in up to 1080p resolution at 30 fps.

Battery and Charging

On the inside, the Galaxy Xcover Pro is backed by a 4,050 mAh battery. The battery is removable which is something that is not seen on many smartphones nowadays. This makes it easy to replace the battery.

As for charging, the phone has support for 15W fast charging via its USB-C port. In comparison to many smartphones out there, this is not really as it will take well over 90 minutes to charge from 0% to full.

Network and Connectivity

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro has support for 4G LTE networks.

The phone comes with dual-band Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac/k/v/r), Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0 (A2DP, LE), GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS), FM Radio, and NFC. It also has support for ANT+. There is a 3.5 headphone jack so you don’t need a dongle.
