Huawei P Smart Z is the first smartphone from the Chinese technology giant, Huawei, to sport a motorized pop-up selfie camera to give a truly full-screen display. The retractable selfie camera is the top highlight of this phone but it also has some other nice specifications that I’ll go through in this article. With the price starting north of $250 or €200, the Huawei P Smart Z is a great mid-range smartphone if you love the pop-up selfie camera.

Display


The display of the Huawei P Smart Z is a beauty to behold as it is without any obstructions thanks to the retractable selfie camera. It has a 6.59 inch LTPS TFT LCD with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and 391 PPI density with an aspect ratio of 19.5 by 9. There’s no official information considering the screen protection.
Design and Body
Design-wise, the P Smart Z is still a beauty to behold as Huawei made nice design decisions. It comes in a plastic body that weighs 197 grams with a thickness of 8.8 mm which is quite hefty nowadays. At the rear, you’d find the camera setup, Huawei branding, and the fingerprint scanner for biometric security.


Processor and Memory
Huawei P Smart Z is powered by the octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 710F (12nm) SoC which has a maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz coupled with the Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. It comes with a substantial 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with micro SD card support.
Camera


On the rear, is a dual-camera setup that features a 16MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and PDAF alongside a 2MP depth camera for portrait effects.
On the front, is the revolutionary motorized pop-up selfie camera that has a 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.
When it comes to videos, both the selfie and rear camera can record 1080p videos at 30 fps.
According to Huawei in-house tests, the motorized pop-up mechanism can withstand 15KG of pressure and has been tested for 100,000+ pop up.
Battery and Charging
The battery on the Huawei P Smart Z is a massive Li-Po 4,000 mAh one, that is non-removable. The battery is huge enough to power the truly full-screen display for up to 8 hours. As for charging, it has a USB Type C port which is convenient. However, there’s no info on support for fast charging.


Network and Connectivity
There’s support for LTE, HSPA, and GSM networks on this phone and it support the following LTE bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20. It comes with dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC (region dependent), and FM radio.
Software


On the software front, the Huawei P Smart Z runs on Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0 straight out of the box. It should get up to one year of future software updates.
